Auntie Yang's Great Soybean Picnic

By Lo, Ginnie

Two young Chinese-American girls enjoy visiting Auntie Yang's house where they get to visit with their cousins. One day they find soybeans which were grown in America for animal feed. However, soybeans were a great treat for Auntie Yang back in China. Years ago soybeans were primarily a livestock crop in America, while a food source for people in China. The story deals with the Chinese-Americans finding a source for the soybeans they always loved to eat. Although it is a picture book, the print layout and story line make it appropriate for older students.
