Beatrice's Goat

By Page McBrier

This beautifully written and illustrated book tells the story of Beatrice, a poor Ugandan girl who longs to go to school. Her family's poverty makes that impossible because they cannot afford the school uniforms or books. The gift of a goat provides the answer even though Beatrice can initially only see the extra work it means. Selling her goat's milk allowed her mother to improve her family's nutrition and to send Beatrice to school. The goat's offspring, given to her friend's family, also sent her friend to school. And so the circle widens and multiplies the gift. Written about a real little girl, Beatrice is now a college student in America. Purchase of this book will benefit Heifer Project International.
