From Maple Tree to Syrup
By Melanie Mitchell
This is one in an excellent series of books depicting the various plant and animal source of food and fibers that come from plants and animals. As an early reader book, the content is minimal but fairly accurate. Each page has one to five sentences. The major flaw in the book is that the images of collecting sap are all with buckets- the old fashioned way to do this. There is one picture that depicts the modern system but is not addressed. The best feature of this book is it depicts a newly planted sugar bush not more than a year or two old. This fosters the concept of trees as a renewable resource. The book ends with a glossary.
