From Shoot to Apple

By Stacy Taus-Bolstad

This is one in an excellent series of books depicting the various plant and animal source of food and fibers that come from plants and animals. As an early reader book, the content is minimal but fairly accurate. Each page has one to five sentences. The major flaw in the book is while it depicts grafting scion wood it depicts it being done on fairly mature trees. This type of grafting is done only when a grower wishes to change a block of apple trees from one variety into another. It would have been much better to depict grafting onto rootstock as is commonly done. The best feature of this book is that it depicts dwarf apple trees and most children's books show old-fashioned trees forty feet tall. The book ends with a glossary.
